This year, students will be reading from many genres.
We will teach reading through a reading workshop, as well as by reading whole class novels.
Students will be learning though whole class discussions, Guided Reading, Literature Circles,
and individually by reading his/her "just right books."

This year students will:
Use strategies to construct and convey meaning
Explain author’s use of appendices, three levels of subheadings, keys, legends, figures, bibliographies
Identify characters’ thoughts, motivations and the role of the narrator
Explain author’s use of literary devices (flash forward / backward, red herring)
Read independently and fluently at grade level
Learn test-taking strategies
